         Holy Trinity Community Church

 1938

Holy Trinity Community Church was formerly Holy Trinity Methodist Church, had its inception in 1938. Members met in homes and various buildings until they purchased a wooden frame building that was placed at 603 South Road Street, presently 607 South Road Street, Elizabeth City, North Carolina.

Mr. George Jones Store was on the corner of Martin and Ehringhaus Street at that time. Roanoke Institute was on Roanoke Avenue. The Presbyterian Church was located on Shephard Street. The Episcopal Church was located on Martin Street. These landmarks were the meeting places for the chartered members of the church.

The chartered members were: Dr. F. C. Cooke, Bro. Charlie Wiggins, Bro. George Perry, Bro. Hezekiah Crutch, Sr., Bro. Jordan Poole, Bro. Billy Poole, Bro. Robert Elliott, Bro. Peter Mullen, Bro. Morris Johnson, Bro. Anthony Story, Bro. Watson, Bro. Lee Overton &  family,  Sis. Sophia Price, Sis. Katie Davis, Sis. Shellie Hardy, Sis. Lenora Riddick, Sis. Rosa Jones, Bro. Tom Overton &family, Bro. Thomas Reid, and Bro. John Simmons.

The Rev. R. K. D. Garrett was the first pastor. Following his death, the Rev. E. Everett Lewis became pastor.  Since that time, other pastors were:  Rev. Pailin, Rev. Edgar Williams,  Rev. Kellman, Rev. Johnnie Williams, Rev. Dr. Charles L Foster Sr., and Rev. T. Stallings. We have been blessed with Pastors at Holy Trinity who love God and God’s people. They have served faithfully, and God blessed us under their leadership.

Our present pastor is Bishop McLinton (Mack) Freshwater. Bishop Freshwater was installed as pastor on August 16, 2020. We pray God’s continued blessings under his leadership. We are working  hard to improve man’s relationship with God and each other and also to improve the building that God has blessed us to worship in.                                 HOLY TRINITY
